J'ai atteint mon but.
Original version :
What has been your musical trail before joining Tympanik Audio?
I produce music for years with a good friend, under the name Kraftmaschine. I started my Solo Project “Dirk Geiger" about 4 years ago and I had an album released at my own label Raumklang Music, some digital albums on other great labels and also tracks on compilations released since this time.
Autumn Fields, your second and very ambient album, contrast with the usual releases of Tympanik. How could you explain their choice?
It was the decision of Paul (Nielsen NDLR), the label head of Tympanik Audio. I sent him my demo and after some time he has contacted me and told me that he would like to release the album. He said he has listened to it again and again and it does not go out of his head. I think that was the reason why he released Autumn Fields.
I also think that Tympanik Audio is not fixed to a style of music, the only criteria being the quality. The kind of music does not matter.
What has been the progress between Dondukov 15, your first LP (out on your own label Raumklang Music) and Autumn Fields?
My music became more adult between Dondukov 15 and Autumn Fields. I’m working now more with field recordings to give my tracks a story. The music itself is evolving to a more personal style. But that happens automatically.
What has been the influences of Autumn Fields?
The influence of Autumn Fields is my mood when I produced it. All the influences around me. The private life, the people surrounding me and the world as I see it. Autumn Fields is a witness of time. Of my time, my inspirations at that time and the noises of it.
Your album seems directly inspired by autumn. What fascinates you so much in this season? And what place do field recordings occupy in your music?
The atmosphere of autumn is just fascinating. The colors of the trees. In the morning the fog and the sun breaks through it again and again. The autumn always triggers in me a certain creative mood. Field recordings are an important part of my music. They give my tracks a frame. They make the the songs visible. However, I do not use this in every pieces. It always depends on the individual title.
Melancholy, anguish, sadness, Autumn Fields plays directly with our emotions. Why this sensitivity?
I think it still comes with the music. That is the meaning of music. Music is to reach our feelings. I tried to keep the melancholy mood of the autumn festival and to process it into music. If the listener can feel that feeling, then I'm happy. I've done everything right.
Many tracks of your album - Gewiterregen, Autumn Life, Noise Format, Overhead Projection and Itch Glitch – led to beautiful videos. Could you talk a little about them? And how do you consider the link between musical work and visual medium?
The videos are produced by two different video artists. I got to know them for a long time over the internet. There are Orazio Oz Sturniolo and 4Sternenstaub. I would like to thank them again for their brilliant work. The video, of course, allows much much more. Here, emotions are also shown in pictures. A good video for a song is important. Especially in this days. Youtube is an important channel to reach many people. In addition, it would be unfortunate if one omits this opportunity.
You belong to a band since a long time, Kraftmaschine. Could you talk a bit about it? And what led you exactly to a personal project?
I have been producing music since 1997 with my good friend Benedetto Rizzo under the name Kraftmaschine. The music fits well in the genre Industrial, Rhytmic Noise. We had many good sales of self released CD-R’s, and have contributed to various compilations during the last years. Unfortunately, It’s almost impossible to play music together, because we live in different cities and the distance is too big. At the moment, each of us is producing their own music. Then we send each other the songs via the internet and each can then edit them.
With your label Raumklang Music, Krafsmaschine and your own music, what are your plans for the future?
I am currently working on songs for a new album. In 2011 I will play some live gigs. I’m not booked out, so if anyone reads this interview and is interested, it would be nice to hear from them. On my label Raumklang Music will be published in December a new album of the Russian musician arMuta, The album fits into the genre IDM, Breakcore, Glitch. In 2011 will follow further releases on Raumklang Music. Combustion engine will probably publish an album in 2011 also. We are already in contact with some labels. Wish us luck.
